SpeakUp
About Us
We are a dedicated club focused on empowering students to build confidence and excel in public speaking. Our mission is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals can develop effective communication and leadership skills while embracing their cultural identity. With a passionate team of 13 members, we host weekly lessons designed to help participants gain practical speaking experience, conquer stage fright, and refine their presentation techniques. Whether you’re looking to enhance your professional communication or simply want to express yourself more confidently, our club offers the tools and guidance you need to succeed.

Our Academics
At SpeakUp, we aim to render essential skills to students to initiate their potential for successful future. Through weekly lessons and practice, our students are consistently furnished with opportunities to learn and improve.

In our public speaking class, students learn a set of valuable verbal skills, including speech giving, impromptu speaking, storytelling, and persuasion. Each week, they receive a thoughtfully designed practice prompt tailored to reinforce the concepts covered in class. This regular practice not only strengthens their speaking abilities but also nurtures their critical thinking, creativity, and self-expression.
In the Kids Toastmasters Reading Course students explore a wide variety of selected books through guided reading, educational games, and in-class discussions. The class encourages thoughtful conversation as well as fostering love for writing. This course will overall help build curiosity and understanding of literature.
We follow a simplified version of the Public Forum Style, which is accessible to elementary students. Students ranging from 2-5 grade learn how to speak confidently in public, form arguments, and write speeches! Our lessons also teach various debate-specific skills such as flowing, cross-examination (crossfire), and encouraging students to think fast on the spot.
The Python class helps students build foundational computing skills through an engaging, hands-on curriculum. We cover core programming concepts such as data types, variables, loops, and conditional logic. As a final project, students apply what they've learned to create their own interactive “choose-your-own-adventure” story game—blending logic and creativity to bring their ideas to life through code.
Our Events

Showcase
We love to give students the opportunity to share their growth with family through our showcases. Whether it's delivering a polished speech, presenting a group project, or demonstrating a piece of code they built, these events allow students to celebrate their progress in a supportive environment.

Speech Competitions
Our classes provide students with remarkable public speaking instruction. From shy and uncertain to confident and bold, our teachers make sure success is 100% possible. Recently, many of them showed superb performance at both the Preliminaries and Finals of the Annual Kids Toastmasters Public Speaking Contest, with many placing in the Top 3.

Parties
At the end of each semester, a fun event is held to showcase the students’ improvement and also celebrate their hard work. After students give their speeches, activities such as games, bake sales, and raffles are held. These events also give parents a snippet of what the students have been working on throughout the semester.
